BARTERCARD GLOSSARY
The Bartercard Glossary has been developed to help you understand the different terms used within this website and the Barter industry. Click on the terms below to find the definition of each.
- Account Manager / Trade Co-ordinator
- People assigned to individual member accounts, who assist members to find buying and selling opportunities within the trade exchange network.
- b.savvy
- a free quarterly publication produced for Bartercard members to assist in the operation and growth of their business.
- Barter
- a type of trade in which goods or services are exchanged for other goods and/or services.
- Bartercard Franchisee
- an independent businessperson with rights to operate a Bartercard brokerage and use the Bartercard brand in a defined territory to conduct business involved in the facilitation of trade transactions in the trading program between members.
- Bartercard Real Estate
- a fully licensed and registered real estate agency, listing and selling properties with a Bartercard trade component.
- Bartercard Travel
- an international travel agency that provides members with access to resorts, restaurants, car hire and other travel related services, whereby the method of payment is Bartercard Trade Dollars.
- Cashflow
- the amounts of cash being received and spent by a business during a defined period of time.
- Directory
- a printed publication similar to the Yellow Pages that lists advertisements for all member businesses highlighting their business description, contact details, location and other information. This printed Directory is distributed to all Bartercard members.
- eMARKETplace
- an online shopping environment containing a For Sale and Wanted section where members can search for business or lifestyle goods and purchase instantly.
- Goods & Services
- either physical or non-material products of value, available to be sold in the marketplace.
- Licensee
- the entity that operates the Bartercard System within a particular country.
- Line of Credit
- a type of credit in Bartercard Trade Pound currency in which Bartercard undertakes to provide to a member during a predefined period.
- Member
- a business or individual that has subscribed for membership to the Bartercard Trading Program in order to exchange its goods and/or services with other members within the Bartercard Trading Program. This is irrespective of the country of origin.
- Members Trading Portal (MTP)
- an online application that enables distribution of member information and transactions to be undertaken and details to be managed. The MTP encompasses the eMARKETplace and the eAuction service.
- Online Auction
- an Internet platform for members (referred to as the eAuction site) to merchandise their goods and services globally in an environment where prices are in Bartercard Trade Dollars and are dictated by supply and demand in a typical auction environment similar to e-Bay.
- Online Directory
- an online portal with a search function to explore advertisements of all member businesses highlighting their business description, contact details, location and other information.
- Small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs)
- businesses that consist of less than 250 employees.
- Trade Exchange
- a company which operates a trading program, acting as a third-party record keeper of trade transactions amongst members, and directs members to each other for the purpose of facilitating trade transactions.
- Trade Pounds
- an accounting unit (notionally equivalent to one pound) used to record the value of goods and services traded. Trade pounds are not legal tender, securities, debentures or commodities.
- Trade Volume
- a calculation of total Bartercard sales and purchases in Trade Pounds.
- Trading
- a transaction conducted between members involving the sale and purchase of goods or services, which is recorded by those members in accordance with the Rules of the Trading Program.
- Trading Program
- the Bartercard Trading Program that enables members to trade with each other using the Bartercard System.
- Transaction
- a change in the status of the finances of two or more businesses or individuals.
